"Everything that we do is based on family traditions & heritage. We believe that wine should be -- and our wine will be -- known for the region from which it originates, rather than its varietal composition."
Born in Buffalo, New York, Robert Renzoni began his career there and is one of the few vintners in Temecula who has dedicated his entire professional life to the wine industry. In 1989 he became the fourth generation of Renzonis to pursue the wine business.
Throughout the better part of the last century, Robert’s family has been involved in some aspect of the wine business. His family owned and operated a wholesale wine and liquor distributorship named Italian & French Wine Company. It was founded in 1933 by his Great Grandfather Federico and his Great, Great Uncle Romeo Battistoni. His Grandfather Domenic joined the company in 1934 and his father Frederick joined in 1959. The family decided to exit the business after 61 incredible years, and the company was sold in 1994.
In 1996, Robert moved to Los Angeles, and from then until 2003, he worked for various wine distributorships, and a distillery, but throughout that time felt that something was missing.
In 2004, Robert decided to return to his roots, relocating to the beautiful Temecula Valley Wine Country. Once there, he immediately started working for a small family winery named Leonesse Cellars as their Sales Manager. Robert utilized his knowledge of the business to successfully market Leonesse. Within a short time, Leonesse Cellars became one of the most visited wineries in all of Temecula Valley.
In 2006, Robert decided to venture out on his own. Today, he devotes his time to realizing his dream of developing Robert Renzoni Vineyards into a world-class wine estate.

The Estate
Robert Renzoni Vineyards is a remarkable estate, nestled in the heart of the Temecula Valley. With 12 acres, it was one of the last great undeveloped properties in Temecula and has all the characteristics of a great wine estate: rolling hills, different microclimates, three distinct soil types and multiple elevations. The property provides an ideal growing climate as well as scenic vistas from which to enjoy the beautiful landscape that is Temecula.
The property was purchased in 2006. Although vineyards existed on a portion of the estate, the majority of the property was virgin soil. This soil was ideal for the planting of several varietals, including Pinot Grigio and Sangiovese. Indeed, it was the diversity of the land that convinced Robert and his family of the potential for the property to become a truly great wine estate.
Surrounded by soaring mountains, the picturesque estate includes beautiful olive trees that add to the lush landscape. The vineyards are set among rolling hills and along a creek that flows through the lower vineyard and a smaller creek that flows through the picnic grounds at the rear of the property. Join us in the afternoon and experience the beautiful sea breezes that sweep through the Rainbow Pass and across the estate. Few vineyards provide such a picturesque setting.
Our Vineyards
Robert Renzoni Vineyards is comprised of 12 acres of which 9 acres are planted to the classic Bordeaux & Italian grape varieties in 6 vineyard blocks as follows: Cabernet Sauvignon, Clone 8 (3 acres), Pinot Grigio, Clone 4 (3 acres), Sangiovese, Brunello Clone (3 acres). The diversity of sun exposure, elevation, and microclimate and soil type produce many different wine lots from the 6 different vineyard blocks. We believe the diversity of the property contributes to the high quality and uniqueness of the fruit.
Now with nearly ten years of growth, the Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard (planted in 1998) has lost its youthful exuberance and has developed into a balanced vineyard that needs little manipulation to produce low yields and concentrated flavors. The Sangiovese and Pinot Grigio vines were planted in 2007.
The fact the vineyards had not been planted throughout the early growth in Temecula Valley's vineyard development is essential. While some vineyards were overtaken with Pearce’s disease in the early to mid 1990's and subsequently plagued by an assault of aggressive mechanical and chemical remedies, the property was untainted. When Robert began to develop the vineyard in 2006, the soils were alive and healthy, and free from prior disease.
Developing Our Vineyards
Starting with a clean slate allowed us the privilege to design the vineyards arrangements. Terrace selection, soil preparation, density of planting, trellis systems and selection of appropriate rootstock and clones were just some of the aspects of vineyard innovation we applied in each specific soil type and microclimate.
The most significant lesson learned here at the estate is the need to keep the soil alive with an assortment of plant life. Pests are managed through the use of organic materials, cover crops and other innovative practices, and only when required. From its very inception, the vineyard has been maintained with a strict criterion of care for the soil and the environment.
We believe one of the things that make our vineyard special is that there were never any other vines planted in our soil.
